Talk in Inauguration of ICAHMMSMM-2016 by Dr.Linfan MAO

Ladies and Gentlemen, Good Morning!

I am very pleasant to meet old friends and many new friends here for International Conference on Advances in Higher Mathematics, Mathematical Sciences and Mathematical Modeling, organized by CMS.

Dear Friends! Please allow me to ask a few questions in the first. Why do you learn mathematics? Why do you research mathematics? Is it just because of living or for your interesting? I think different persons will answer these questions differently. For myself, I research mathematics for holds on the reality of matters in the world.

In May of this year, I read a very popular but highly controversial book  “The End of Science: Facing the Limits of Knowledge in the Twilight of the Scientific Age”, written by Prof.John Horgan of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a professional writer for Scientific American. I exchanged ideas with him in letter once. He visited many famous philosophers, physicists, cosmologists, biologists, sociologists, neuroscientists before he wrote this book, and asked them to evaluate the future of their professional fields. However, each of them claimed that the end of his field will coming soon.

Why is this happening? Is it really coming soon the end of science, particularly, the mathematics? In fact, the lifetime of each person in the world is limited. Particularly, for researchers only on an abstracted problem, it must has an end for his scientific career. However, I never agree that there is an end of science or mathematics unless humans disappeared in the universe. Because if you wishes to find the truth of matters in the world, you will passionate your researching everyday and never be ended. How does it appear? It needs more mathematical actives, and you need new notions and new ideas on your professional fields. You need more commutations with other mathematicians and other scientists to enlarge your field. I think attending mathematical conference or meeting are the best choice.

So, I wish all attendant will use this opportunity organized by CMS to exchange well, display your thinking and results, learn more new notions, ideas from others and then, there must be no end on your mathematics.

Finally, I also wish this conference a complete success!

Thanks to everyone!
